Jordan government’s clearance received to export Sri Lankan Mango and Pineapple to Jordan

 

The three member technical delegation from Jordan who visited Sri Lanka from 6^th – 11^th December 2021 to inspect the mango and pineapple orchards on the issue of the alleged fruit fly that has prevented the exports of these fruits to Jordan. They examined Vapor Heat Treatment (VHT) facilities and protocol for TJC mango in Treatment Technology Division at National Plant Quarantine Service, Katunayake , as well  the Entomology Division is responsible for fruit fly rearing and handling. The department of agriculture is aiming at eliminating the quarantine fruit fly for the purpose of exporting TJC mango to Jordan.

1. The conditions of exporting mango which is treated by VHT to Jordan

• The fruits are to be packed in airtight cartons in the form of single layer, without stacking the fruits on the top of each other, on condition that the cartons should contain ventilation holes covered with a sieve with small holes (insect proof net) that allow air to enter.
• To be attached a treatment certificate with the shipment from the facility containing data in terms of weight, number of packages that were processed and a temperature record.
• These documents are certified by the Sri Lankan Agricultural Quarantine employee who is authorized to sign officially on the sterilization certificate at the facility site.
• The consignment should be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate, on condition that it is mentioned in the treatment item “treatment of the shipment with VHT at the recommended temperature (47⁰ C) and time period (30min)”.

 

1. Permit for exporting pineapples from Sri Lanka

• The consignments are disinfected with one of the material approved by the Sri Lankan side and that the treatment is recorded in the treatment item of the phytosanitary certificate

We look forward to continue the good relationship between public & private partnership in the future to clear the quarantine barriers in other markets to promote more perishable product exports from Sri Lanka.
