Process Steps

Step 1

Make an application to the Intellectual Property Office.Submit a document (Patent Specifications) with the application form describing applicants invention clearly and completely and the claims. Instruction to fill the application form and specifications are given in the guidelines. (Click Here)

Step 2

Pay the prescribed fee. 

Step 3

Submit a search report prepared by an international searching authority or alternatively request the IP Office to forward application form to a local examiner for search of relevant prior art upon payment of examination fee.

Step 4

 IP Office will examine application as to the formal requirements.

Step 5

If formal requirements are fulfilled, the application is subjected to substantive examination. Applications with acceptable international type search reports and applications accepted as patentable by local examiners will be granted. Applications subjected to local examination will be published before grant. Applicants are allowed to submit amendments / corrections with the prescribed fee if patentability criteria is not fulfilled. Then amendments will be re-searched.
