Request Letter addressed to the Director General.

Two Seperate photographs for each and every commodity to be exported.

Process Steps

Step 1

The Commodities must be Submitted along with the request Letter and the Photographs to the Director General of the Department of Archaeology.

Step 2

The Department of Archaelogy inspects the Commodities to see if they are compatible with the photographs and to assess whether the technology and nature of the commodities are of archaelogical value. 

Step 3

The Movable Antiquities unit inspects the Commodities and if the Commodities are not of archaelogical value  issues a written letter of permission to export the commodities.

Requirements to obtain a permission for the export of antiquities.General In accordance to the Antiquities Ordinance of 1940 any objects lying or being or being found in Sri Lanka, which date or may reasonably be believed to date from a period prior to the 2nd day of March,1815 is considered to be Antiquities.If any object is identified as an antiquity by the Department of Archaeology, that object is prohibited from being displaced out of Sri lanka.
